WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE MEETING?
Researchers and clinicians from all disciplines with an interest in health and medical research are encouraged to attend. The research covered will be much broader than other meetings given the unique focus of this meeting. It will be an incubator for professional development, networking and showcasing of research.
Student, early to mid-career researchers are particularly encouraged to attend to the professional development workshops.
IS ASMR MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE?
No, but we would encourage you to become a member. Membership also entitles you to be eligible for PRIZES! Why not become an ASMR Member and enjoy membership prices to the conference too, along with the many other benefits that membership brings.
WHERE IS THE CONFERENCE BEING HELD?
The 2023 conference is being held at the Florey Institute at the University of Melbourne. Further details about the location will be posted closer to the NSC.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES AT THE CONFERENCE?
A range of prizes will be given at the Conference. In general, all registrants who submit an abstract are eligible for prizes if they are members of ASMR, agree to be interviewed and indicate that they wish to be considered. However, there are additional eligibility requirements for the Campion-Ma-Playoust Award (see below).
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE CAMPION – MA – PLAYOUST MEMORIAL AWARD?
You can apply for this award if you are an ASMR member who is aged under 30 or a student member. Further details about this award can be found here, and you can nominate yourself for this award within the registration form.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN ASMR RESEARCH FUND AWARD?
You can apply for this award if you are an ASMR member who is a postgraduate student nearing completion of their studies or a recently graduated (3 years maximum) postdoctoral member to undertake a short period of research in a laboratory outside their home city. The Domestic award is $2,000 and the International award is $5,000. N.B., this award specifically excludes support for conference attendance and travel for an extended period of postdoctoral studies. Please use this form, which must be submitted by 4pm, Friday October 6th 2023. The winners will be notified prior to the NSC and announced in Session 6 of the NSC on November 3rd, 2023.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE PETER DOHERTY LEADING LIGHT AWARD?
You can apply for this award if you are an ASMR member who is a mid-career researcher. Please use this form, which must be submitted by 4pm, Friday September 22nd 2023. The winner will be notified prior to the NSC and announced in Session 6 of the NSC on November 3rd, 2023.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE ASMR STUDENT TRAVEL SUBSIDY?
ASMR offers student travel subsidies to reduce eligible student members’ costs of travel to the NSC. The value of the subsidy will be based on the number of eligible applicants and the cheapest airfares to Sydney available for the dates of the NSC. The subsidy will be paid by cheque at the NSC. You can apply for this stipend if you are a full-time Student Member of ASMR, will earn less the $30,000 in the current calendar year; and pay all of your travel to the conference from your funds. Please use this form, which must be submitted by 5pm, Friday October 27th 2023. Successful applicants will be notified prior to the NSC and announced in Session 6 of the NSC on November 3rd, 2023.
IS THIS AN ONLINE CONFERENCE?
The 2023 NSC is an in-person conference. To ensure the health and safety of all attendees and ensure a successful conference, the organising committee strongly recommends that face masks be worn in all indoor settings, and in crowded outdoor settings.
WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED ABOUT PROGRAMING DECISIONS?
Notification will be sent after the expiry of deadlines and will include specific presentation instructions. The complete program will be available online.
WILL MY ABSTRACT BE PUBLISHED ONLINE?
A couple of weeks before the meeting, the final program will be published online.
DO I NEED TO REGISTER TO THE SOCIAL FUNCTION?
This is an optional extra. If you wish to attend you should tick the box during the registration process.
CAN I BRING EXTRA GUESTS TO SOCIAL EVENTS?
Additional tickets can be purchased for social events, up until the day of the event unless sold out.
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE FOR THE CONFERENCE?
During the conference, smart casual attire is fine.
